Improving education

A Traralgon after-school homework class supporting Koorie students has received a $1000 donation to go towards food, sports equipment and stationery in 2016.

The program has run for 28 years, although not continuously, and relies on sponsorship, volunteers and financial support to continue.

It caters for pre-schoolers, primary and secondary students who attend Traralgon schools with the help of Koorie engagement support officers, tutors and Wanjana Lidj.

Soroptimist International of Gippsland this year supported the initiative, handing over $400 worth of food vouchers, $400 of sports vouchers and a cash grant for stationery.

This has allowed the group of 35 students to receive help completing their homework while socialising in sports activities and sharing a meal.

The Koorie homework support program runs on Monday afternoons for two hours after school at Liddiard Road Primary School, Traralgon.
