Council sanctions T’gon silver screen

A major Traralgon development including a cinema and office complex has been approved.

Latrobe City Council has issued the planning permit for the project which will feature three separate buildings ranging in height from three to five storeys on the corner of Grey and Franklin streets.

It comes after there were no objections lodged with the Victorian Civil and Administrative Tribunal.

The $20 million project includes a cinema, food and drink premises, motel, offices, 21 apartments and car parking.

Minster Constructions director Peter Minster said he hoped to start the development by the end of the year or early next year.

“We’re looking forward to the project coming to fruition,” Mr Minster said.

“We think it’s good for the town and hopefully people agree with us.”

Mr Minster ruled out Village Cinemas as the theatre operator, however did not reveal which company was involved.

Latrobe City mayor Michael Rossiter said the development demonstrated “investment potential and economic activity go hand-in-hand with a smooth and effective planning process”.

Applications that receive fewer than five objections are approved internally by council’s planning department, rather than being voted on by councillors themselves.
