Funds injection for Valley arts

The Latrobe Performing Arts Centre and Latrobe Regional Gallery have been awarded $180,000 and $285,000, respectively, through the State Government’s Regional Partnerships program.

The program is by invitation only and provides Victorian regional communities access to a wide variety of arts experiences through supporting the funding of regional art galleries and performing arts centres.

Federation University is seeking government approval to take over Monash University’s Berwick campus from 2017. If approved, FedUni will offer up to 15 degrees at Berwick in 2017 in the fields of business, education, nursing, IT and science, with the intention to be the sole university at the campus in 2018.

Vice Chancellor David Battersby said FedUni would “build on the great work Monash has done at Berwick and maintain a strong and vibrant campus”.

Other FedUni campuses located across the state are Churchill, Ballarat and Wimmera.

KurnaiCollege students will have the opportunity to study nanoscience, stem cells and astrophysics at the state’s leading specialist school in science, maths and associated technologies.

The school’s year 10 students will take part in the John Monash Science School’s 2016 regional science exchange program, which gives students from regional Victoria the opportunity to attend the specialist science school in Clayton for four weeks of intensive study.

The four-week program includes classes, workshops and visits to the CSIRO and Monash University. More than 150 students from 36 regional schools have taken part in the exchange program since 2011.
