Rosedale and Flynn highway switch

Motorists on the Princes Highway between Flynn and Rosedale will enjoy a smoother journey as they are switched onto a new section of road near Rosedale.

Federal Transport Minister Darren Chester said the traffic switch was a major step in the $260 million duplication of the Princes Highway between Traralgon and Sale where about 30 of the 43 kilometres will be completed by the end of 2019.

“The 8.3 kilometre section from Flynn to Rosedale is the longest in the overall project,” Mr Chester said.

“Works on the section include constructing four new bridges, including two over Flynn’s Creek and two over Blind Joes Creek, along with five kilometres of new traffic lanes.”

State Roads Minister Luke Donnellan said works could continue on the existing section of highway by switching traffic onto the new section of road.

The Federal Government is providing $210 million and the State Government $50 million to duplicate the Princes Highway East between Traralgon and Sale. Construction from Flynn to Rosedale is expected to be completed later this year.

Families may be foregoing affordable dental treatment for their children due to public confusion over the future of the Child Dental Benefits Scheme, according to Latrobe Community Health Service.

“Families in Gippsland who receive Family Tax Benefit Part A, and have children under the age of 17, are still eligible for up to $1000 of dental care – the government will cover the cost,” LCHS dental services manager Jenny Juschkat said.

“Until the Federal Government announces a new plan and timeframe to replace the Child Dental Benefits Scheme, the existing arrangements are still in place.”

A National Child Oral Health Survey 2012-2014 report, recently released by the University of Adelaide, found that one in nine children aged five to 14 have never been to the dentist, and a quarter of children aged under 10 have untreated tooth decay.

“We have dental clinics in Warragul, Moe and Morwell. Combined with the Child Dental Benefits Scheme, there’s no reason you can’t see an oral care practitioner,” Ms Juschkat said.

Families can book an appointment at LCHS dental clinics in Moe, Morwell or Warragul by phoning 1800 242 696.
