Valley health advocates win award

Voices of the Valley was recognised with an award for promoting health equity in the Latrobe Valley, during the 2016 VicHealth Awards on Thursday night.

Victoria’s greatest health promotion projects were recognised for their dedication to creating and supporting healthier and happier communities across the state at the annual awards night.

VotV was among other winners announced at a ceremony at Federation Square. The group was recognised for its work in the Valley following the Hazelwood mine fire, which had a devastating impact on the health and wellbeing of local residents.

VicHealth chief executive Jerril Rechter said the VicHealth Awards displayed the huge range, value and influence of health promotion programs and projects in Victoria.

The Express was a finalist in the outstanding journalism on health promotion issues category for journalist Emma Watson’s work focusing on family violence.

The winner of this category was tied between Bendigo Advertiser journalist Adam Holmes and the Herald Sun’s Wendy Tuohy.
