Suspicious grassfire at Edward Hunter Reserve

Police have deemed a grassfire at Moe’s Edward Hunter Heritage Bush Reserve on Sunday night as suspicious.

Latrobe Criminal Investigation Unit Detective Senior Constable Lauren Swan said two unknown offenders, described as being a male and a female estimated between 14 to 15 years of age, entered the reserve between 7.30pm and 8pm and allegedly lit two individual fires.

Det Snr Const Swan said the first, about 100 metres south of the reserve’s Lincoln Street entrance, was extinguished by witnesses.

The second fire, about 500 metres further south of the first, engulfed a 20 metre by 30 metre area and was put out a short time later by Country Fire Authority crews.

Det Snr Const Swan said the fires had been deemed suspicious and investigations were ongoing.

Anyone who witnessed the incident, or has any information is asked to call the Latrobe Criminal Investigation Unit on 5131 5000.
