Paws pound the pavement

More than 280 people and their pooches gathered at Agnes Brereton Park in Traralgon on Sunday for the RSPCA Million Paws Walk.

Traralgon regional coordinator Barb Webb said the fundraiser was a great success and the number of participants far exceeded her expectations.

“It was just a sea of dogs and people, all talking and barking and getting tied up in their leads trying to walk in the park,” Ms Webb said.

“There were lots of families, not just individuals and their dogs, but families and older couples.”

The event raised more than $5300 for the RSPCA.

“We had a big set-up down there. We had food stalls, a coffee stall and the Gippsland Obedience Dog Club did some agility displays,” she said.

While there were three distances for walkers to choose from, most dogs and walkers took the 3.4 kilometre track, with about 15 people taking the extended 6.8km course.

“I was told the walk was a really good distance and that it was achievable for the dogs,” Ms Webb said.

“The team of volunteers was amazing.

“We’ll certainly be back next year.”
