Axe attack charges

A man has been charged after allegedly hitting another man in the head with an axe at Morwell last year.

Detectives alleged the 37-year-old Morwell man jumped the fence of a James Street, Morwell property wearing a balaclava in October.

They alleged he entered a bungalow at the rear of the property and struck a man in the head while he slept. 

Newborough fires

Police are investigating two separately lit fires along John Field Drive in Newborough on Tuesday.

Detectives said the first fire started on the side of the road in grassland about 2.45pm.

A short time later a second fire was lit about two kilometres north along the road towards Yallourn North.

Both fires were being treated as suspicious.

Garden theft arrest

A 27-year-old man has been charged after allegedly stealing items from a car near Dwyer Court in Morwell on Sunday.

Detectives arrested the man who allegedly stole a whipper snipper, lawn mower and garden blower from the vehicle.

The man will face Latrobe Valley Magistrates’ Court in April.

Police said a number of tools were still missing and asked anyone with information to phone Latrobe Crime Investigation Unit on 5131 5000 or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
