Free TAFE courses announced by the state government last year are proving popular in the Latrobe Valley with local TAFE FedTraining reporting high levels of interest in the courses on offer.
While enrolments at the TAFE have not yet been finalised, FedTraining chief executive Grant Radford said the institution was well ahead of prospective student numbers compared with last year.
“The free TAFE initiative has certainly been a significant factor,” he said.
“Gippsland students have certainly responded to the initiative and interest has been strong across our Gippsland campuses.”
The free TAFE courses on offer to eligible students in the Latrobe Valley include civil construction, allied health, community services, commercial cookery, horticulture, mental health, alcohol and other drugs, plumbing, nursing and others.
“The courses offered across our Gippsland locations will help meet the specific skills and industry needs of those communities and will provide students with the skills needed to gain future employment,” Mr Radford said.
