Anzac Day will look a lot different this year, although the Latrobe Valley is encouraged to not let coronavirus take away the significance it holds in our local communities.
Dawn services have for many years continued to grow in numbers as many young families join in the tradition by paying their respects and ‘remembering them’ at cenotaphs across the region.
But this year will not be the case due to restrictions put in place to stop the spread of COVID-19.
RSL Victorian branch president Robert Webster is calling on people to light a candle or put on a porch light for the dawn service and stand in their driveways.
“We’re asking Australians to stand at 6am,” Mr Webster said.
“A candle out the front, a light out the front, stand to and remember.
“We can all do it, it’s not that hard.”
Gippsland FM (104.7 FM) will broadcast a dawn service from 6am, which includes The Ode, The Last Post and a minute silence.
You can tune into the online stream via www.gippslandfm.com.au.
RSL Victoria and The Express is encouraging people to snap a picture at dawn.
You can share your photos via The Express and RSL Victoria’s Facebook pages, using the hashtag #STANDTO.
Amplify our commitment to the Anzac spirit. Lest we forget.
