The first case of coronavirus recorded in Latrobe City in over a month was confirmed on Monday.
The Department of Health and Human Services confirmed this was currently the only active case in the region.
DHHS refused to confirm whether the case was acquired through community transmission and whether the person was currently located in Latrobe City.
A Department of Health and Human Services spokesperson said “there are strict procedures in place to protect the public wherever someone tests positive to coronavirus”.
“All close contacts are identified and notified if they need to self-isolate or seek testing,” the spokesperson said.
“As part of our contact tracing, any public exposure sites are contacted and provided with advice about the transmission risks and any cleaning that may be required.”
The total number of (COVID-19) cases in Victoria is 1884 with 20 new cases reported yesterday, the eighth consecutive day of double-digit case growth in the state.
The DHHS confirmed that a man in his 80s died in hospital, which takes the state’s coronavirus death total to 20.
Seven of yesterday’s cases were linked to outbreaks, nine through routine testing and one returned traveller in hotel quarantine.
Victoria’s chief health officer, Professor Brett Sutton urged the community to observe the new restriction
“We have made some great progress in slowing the spread of coronavirus, but we are still seeing new cases in the community,” he said.
“(There is) a continuing and concerning number of new cases associated with transmission in households and families.
“The Victorian government has announced a tightening of the rules and has reduced the number of visitors you can have in your home to five.
