The Latrobe Valley currently has 13 active cases of coronavirus, with a number of additional infections confirmed this week.
An Opal Australian Paper Maryvale worker yesterday tested positive for the virus following a recent test, as contact tracing and deep cleaning is being carried out.
Opal Australian Paper public relations general manager Craig Dunn said the company was working closely with government to manage the situation.
“Our key concern is for the welfare of our employee and his immediate family. He is doing as well as can be expected and is currently isolating and resting at home,” Mr Dunn said.
TAFE Gippsland also confirmed a student at its Yallourn campus tested positive for the virus on Sunday.
A TAFE Gippsland spokesperson said itsYallourn campus “will be closed for at least 48 hours to allow cleaning and contact tracing to occur”.
Moe Early Learning Centre also confirmed yesterday a second staff member had tested positive for COVID-19.
The second staff member was not identified as a close contact of the other case at the centre.
“We understand that this will cause furhter concern for families whose children attend the service and our staff,” Latrobe City Council said in a statement.
There have also been five confirmed cases of COVID-19 at aged care facility Bupa Traralgon, three of them this week. One staff member and four residents have tested positive at the care home.
