Attempted child abduction in Moe

Central Gippsland Sexual Offences and Child Abuse Investigation Team (SOCIT) detectives have charged a man following an investigation into historical sex assaults.

A MOE man, 28, was arrested following an alleged attempted child abduction late last month.

The man approached a woman and her six-month old child on George St, Moe at approximately 5pm on Saturday, September 25.

He allegedly began grabbing at the child and then allegedly attempted to take the child from the pram. However, the child was strapped in, and he was unable to do so.

When bystanders emerged from a nearby takeaway restaurant, the man fled up George
St. Shortly after, he was located and arrested.

The man has been charged with attempted child stealing, and is set to face Latrobe
Magistrates Court at a later date.

The mother and child were uninjured.
