CHURCHILL Braves and Moe Newborough Dodgers continued their recent run of tense tussles at the weekend in round 16 of GDF SUEZ Loy Yang B Latrobe Valley A Grade Baseball in Newborough.
The Braves opened the game with a run in the first innings and the Dodgers answered right back with three of their own.
A Grant Irving home run drew the Braves level in the third at 3-3, and the side added another in the sixth to take the lead.
The Dodgers responded with a three run innings through RBI singles to Nathan Simpson and Tim Wilson and a fielder’s choice to hold the lead going into the seventh innings.
Churchill’s batters rallied to add three runs to the total and restore the lead.
Anthony Mether was replaced on the mound by Matt Hardie and he held the Dodgers scoreless for the rest of the game.
The Braves added an eighth and final run in the penultimate innings to hold out the in-form Dodgers 8-6.
The Sale Rangers travelled to Traralgon to meet the Redsox in the other A grade bout.
Traralgon scored five runs in the first three innings to put the Rangers on the back foot from the outset.
A two run single by Josh Graham and an RBI single by Brad Adams in the first were catalyst for the flying start.
Sale’s Andrew Johnston was the shining light for the Rangers hitting three for three on the day.
Traralgon scored consistently throughout the contest to win 10-1.
