Dodgers blitz bogey team

BASEBALL

Moe Newborough Dodgers received a huge ego boost by defeating bogey team Traralgon Redsox in round eight of the GDF SUEZ Loy Yang B Latrobe Valley Baseball A Grade competition.

The Dodgers broke through in the third inning with two runs and followed it up with one in the fifth and a pair in the sixth.

Dodgers pitcher Jason Smith held the Redsox to no runs for seven innings while Redsox counterpart Damien Goodman was strong on the hill.

The Redsox defence was lacking in areas as the Dodgers fielders made some stunning plays to back up Smith.

Star performances from Smith, Dale Simpson and Ash Poxon set up a 5-0 triumph to the Dodgers.

In the other A Grade fixture the Churchill Braves travelled to Sale to take on the Rangers.

The bats were fired up from the get go and the Braves opened the game with one in the first before the Rangers replied with one of their own.

Sale then piled on the runs, helped by some poor defence from the Braves.

Sale scored five in the second and four in the third, then continued the charge with three in the fifth to hold a 13-5 lead after five innings.

The Braves scored twice in the sixth and seventh but it was too late to salvage a result.

Rangers pitcher Will Hector and Braves equivalent Tim Bellerby toiled hard all day on the hill, before Churchill’s Mat Prior come on and held Sale scoreless after the fifth inning.

Andrew Johnston came on in the last for the Rangers and held the Braves out.

It marked the Rangers’ first win of the year, 13-9.
