DUNCAN Cameron Park was another target of vandalism at the weekend with the main pitch damaged ahead of a scheduled Traralgon Rovers practice match on Sunday.
Traralgon police Constable Alex McNeill said it was alleged the offending person poured a mixture of oil and rocks over the club’s freshly prepared turf cricket pitch.
A club representative believes whoever is responsible had some knowledge of the sport as they poured the majority of the mixture on the wicket just short of a good length.
The cricket club had arranged to play a practice match on the Sunday, which had to be postponed.
The club estimated the cost of the turf pitch, if it needs to be replaced, at $2500.
Const McNeill said the damage occurred between Saturday night and Sunday morning.
“It smacks in the face of volunteers who put all their time and effort in preparing these sporting grounds for all the local cricketers whether they are adults or children to utilise,” Const McNeill said.
Anyone with information should phone Traralgon police on 5131 5000 or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
