CBL GIPPSLAND

CHURCHILL Blue Devils ransacked Latrobe Valley rival Moe Meteors 98-79 in round four of the Country Basketball League Gippsland conference at the weekend.

Premiership captain Jordan Canovan was again the catalyst with a game high 29 points and four three-pointers, with assistance from the Michaelides brothers Rob (16 points) and Nick (13 points).

Moe’s Jayden Van Dyk equalled Canovan’s efforts outside the arc with a quartet of threes to tally 22 individual points in the side’s first loss of the season.

The Meteors retained top spot ahead of Churchill after accounting for Korumburra 86-81 on Sunday.

Moe exacted revenge in the women’s competition in a tense two-point victory over the Blue Devils.

Carly Mullen-Bianconi, Danielle Davis and Jazmin Shelley led the Meteors’ charge in the 70-68 thriller, while Tanarly Hood was valiant with a game high 24 points for Churchill.

Moe made it two-for-two in its double header with a 19-point win over Korumburra.

Traralgon had a tough weekend out, going down in both men’s matches while the women snared the points against Korumburra before losing to Warragul.
