T-Birds take flight

TRARALGON T-Birds surged to the top of the Country Basketball League Gippsland women points tally after twin wins over Warragul and Western Port at the weekend.

The all-for-one formula was on full display yet again for the T-Birds, with 12 individual scorers combining for a 76-38 victory against Warragul on Saturday.

Laura Joyce racked up 20 points to lead the way in Sunday’s 82-74 win over the Lady Steelers, backed up by four other double digit contributors.

The T-Birds have won seven of 10 matches to date to boast the most points in the competition, however sit second on win percentage behind Moe which has won five of its six games.

Churchill lost its men’s fixture to Warragul while the women won the corresponding clash handsomely 88-36.

Moe had the week off in both men’s and women’s divisions.

Warragul, Western Port, Moe and Sale make up the men’s top four.

Moe, Traralgon, Churchill and Western Port lead the women’s ladder.
