Prince underdog for tennis crown

TENNIS

PRINCE will meet the impervious Asic in tomorrow’s Traralgon Tuesday women’s tennis grand final.

Asic swept Wilson aside in last week’s semi-final after dropping two of the opening four sets.

At the final change only one game separated the sides, but Asic turned up the heat to blast convincing consecutive set wins.

Janine Beechey-Danvers won her three sets to pave the way for the grand final berth in a 4-2 (38-29).

Yonnex was unable to carry its good late season form into its semi-final with Prince.

Prince had contributions from its entire roster, with Deb Reynolds showing excellent finals form.

The side only dropped two sets during the match in the middle stages of the tie.

The two consolation semi-finals were both close encounters.

Adidas and Babolat fought it out all day but Adidas proved too strong, taking the match three sets all, 43 games to 28.

Emergency player Cheryl White dominated for Adidas.

After sneaking into the grand final on the back of a late season surge, Puma continued surprise with a win over Dunlop.

Megan Agostino worked hard all day to take three sets for Dunlop, but it was not enough to secure the result.

Puma won the match three sets all, 37 games to 35 and will now play Adidas in the consolation grand final.

Player of the week was Marlene Lamont.
