A Traralgon-based footballer was placed in an induced coma after suffering a knock to the throat in an Alberton Football Netball League reserve grade match on Sunday.
AFL Gippsland and Devon-Welshpool-Won Wron-Woodside Football Netball Club released the following statement, regarding the player in question, Brent Gray.
“Last Sunday, Gray was admitted to hospital due to an injury sustained while playing for DWWWW in an AFNL reserves game,” the statment read.
“The 22 year-old took what he thought was an innocuous hit to the throat during the match and played on. It was not until much later he was in any real pain, at which point his fianc took him to Latrobe Regional Hospital.
“As a precaution, Gray was placed in an induced coma and moved to the Alfred Hospital, where he was diagnosed with a fractured larynx.
“The family has asked for privacy as Gray continues his recovery and will not be making any comment at this time.”
