THE South Gippsland Miners posted their maiden victory in the Latrobe Valley Baseball Association, downing Morwell Cougars 12-10 in a round four hitting frenzy.
At home, Morwell jumped out of the blocks with two runs in the second inning, four in the third and three in the fourth.
The Miners opened their account in style with two runs in the fourth followed by a mammoth eight in the sixth and two in the seventh to take the lead.
Morwell could only add one more in the sixth to hand the Miners their first win since joining the league this year.
A total of 38 hits between the sides made for an interesting game with Jeremy Katz racking up three for the Miners and Anthony Mayberry four for the Cougars.
Mayberry, Chris Heppleston and Kenny Dron were best for Morwell, while for the Miners Shane Osbourne, Katz and Colin Knox were exceptional.
Churchill v Traralgon
THE Churchill Braves hosted Traralgon Redsox in a match interrupted by rain.
A dogged affair saw the game tied at one all from the second inning with some quality pitching from the Braves’ Mat Prior and Traralgon’s Brad Adams.
The deadlock was finally broken in the eighth inning when Redsox bat Tom Rynberk doubled to score two runners and take the game 3-1.
Best for the Redsox were Adams, Rynberk and Luke Hornstra and for the Braves Prior, Cameron Cooen and Tim Bellerby.
Moe/Newborough v Sale
THE Moe Newborough Dodgers travelled to Sale to face the Rangers in another batters’ day with 26 hits for the game.
Dodger Dale Simpson led the way with both bat and ball, holding the Rangers hitters after they scored seven in the first five innings off starter Jason Smith.
Simpson allowed just one more run and the Dodgers batters ran away with the game 17-8.
Best for Dodgers were Simpson, Ash Poxon and Jayk Bloomfield.
For the Rangers, Andrew Norman, Lachlan Wrigglesworth and Andrew Pembrey tried hard.
