VANDALS have sliced a number of nets at Traralgon City Soccer Club, valued about $1500.
Four out of eight of the club’s goal nets incurred cuts ranging from about one-metre-and-a-half in length to some cut completely off the frame of the goals.
Roosters club president Steve Andersen believes the damage occurred during the Queen’s Birthday long weekend, following the final junior match played at Harold Preston Reserve on Saturday.
Andersen said the nets had been left up throughout the season for the past four to five years without issue since the club switched to portable aluminium goals.
He said the club, which caters for about 200 juniors and 70 senior players, would likely reluctantly return to removing nets outside of games, despite dwindling dedicated helpers.
Andersen said school sport and other user groups, which utilise the field throughout the week, were affected along with the club’s regular training and playing activities.
