Monash ends Fortuna winning streak

MONASH put an end to Fortuna’s winning streak with a hard fought 3-2 victory at Monash Reserve in Gippsland Soccer League.

The home side took the lead in the eighth minute, when Chad Shelley whipped the ball into the box to Tom Bramstedt, whose glancing header found the far corner of the net.

Fortuna levelled late in the half through Dylan Dehommel, who slotted home after Hayden Tanti had his initial strike turned away.

The Orangemen could have snatched the lead before the break but Monash keeper Enda Murphy produced a save.

Ethan Lawrence had a moment of brilliance to re-take the lead, chesting down and lashing the ball in from the edge of the area.

Fortuna marksman Tanti was having a quiet game, well shackled by Ryan Semple as the visitors struggled to find other avenues to goal.

With a minute remaining in normal time Monash sealed the three points when Fortuna keeper Jason Collins was closed down by Lawrence as he tried to play the ball out.

The rebound fell to Shelley, who fired into the open net from 30 yards.

Tanti grabbed a consolation goal in spectacular fashion in injury time, smashing his shot from the touchline into the top corner.
