MTY Raiders all-rounder Liam Maynard almost dragged Victoria Country to an unlikely win over its metropolitan counterpart in Benalla on Sunday.
Vic Country came within five runs of a stunning victory in pursuit of 215 from 50 overs, after Maynard’s run-a-ball 31 not out brought the side within touching distance of the target.
Earlier in the day Maynard took four catches and bowled six overs but was unable to get the breakthrough as a 150-run partnership for Vic Metro set up its imposing score.
Bohdi Walker (Stratford) was a late withdrawal from the game leaving Maynard as Gippsland’s sole representative.
