GIPPSLAND was out to prove the spectacular 49-all draw in its previous meeting with Mid Gippsland was an anomaly and did so in style on Friday night at Churchill.
Mid Gippsland was without tall goal shooter Taylin Gourley, who was with Melbourne University’s Victorian Netball League team, for the round four Regional Victorian Netball League open division clash while Gippsland was boosted by the return of Stacey O’Brien from injury.
By the first break Gippsland led by two goals and kept the pressure on to open up an eight-goal advantage by half-time.
Gippsland pushed away in the third to lead 43-27 before Mid Gippsland saved face in the fourth to reduce the deficit in a 41-55 result.
Ramayer Gourley was named coaches’ ‘most wanted’ with 43 goals from 54 attempts.
East Gippsland and Morwell Indoor Red collided in the other open division match with the former looking to power through for a much needed win and percentage boost.
The East smashed the first quarter to build a 19-8 deficit.
Morwell Indoor Red improved throughout the match but East Gippsland easily claimed the points 64-45.
Georgia Hutchinson’s move to goal attack in the second half helped Mid Gippsland overcome North Gippsland 42-37 in the under 19 division.
Casey Sherriff then starred for Gippsland in its 61-38 win over a young Pakenham line-up.
The game to watch tomorrow night is Gippsland and Sale in the under 19 division from 7.15pm; both teams go into the match undefeated and are vying for the top spot.
