Spotlight shines on girls’ soccer

The Gippsland FC Girls Development squad recently played a practice match against the Inverloch Stars under 15 girls’ team to help promote the game in South Gippsland.

“The girls from both sides played a high spirited game and showed the Gippsland region has a strong talent pool of female players,” a club spokesperson said.

“This was the first match the GFC girls had played together and they teamed up well, showing improvement as the match went on as they began to work with each other.

“The girls have been working hard to improve their skills and some very good play saw them take a sizeable lead in at half time.”

Inverloch was under pressure but to its credit the home team continued to fight hard.

Inverloch was rewarded for its efforts scoring two goals during the second half through sheer persistence.

The game finished with Gippsland comfortable winners on the scoreboard.

The GFC Girls Development Program still has a few vacancies for interested players and will be playing more practice matches in the near future as opposition teams are confirmed.
