Hector heroics fall short

The all-round heroics of William Hector were not enough to save Sale from defeat at the hands of Moe/Newborough when the two sides went head-to-head in their Latrobe Valley Baseball Association clash on Sunday.

The Dodgers claimed a 3-1 win over the Rangers, leaving it two points clear of third-placed Churchill, which has a game in hand.

Hector was the stand-out player for Sale, getting on base three times during the game and singling in the fifth and seventh innings.

He also proved handy with the ball on the mound, limiting the Dodgers to three runs, eight hits and one walk.

The Sale workhorse also managed to strike out three over eight innings.

Tim Wilson put the Moe/Newborough Dodgers in the game as he drove in one and scored one run.

He singled in the second, third, and sixth innings.

Sale was baffled by the pitching prowess of Moe/Newborough’s Nathan Simpson, who struck out six batters.

In addition, he conceded no earned runs and just six hits and three walks over seven innings.

The Dodgers held the lead after the third, when it scored two runs on a single by Wilson.

Sale managed one run in the sixth inning, but it did not take long for Moe/Newborough Dodgers to respond with a run of their own in their sixth.

The Moe/Newborough Dodgers scored on an RBI single by Brett Wilson.

At the end of the game Sale had nine hits to the Dodgers’ eight and had notched up two errors to Moe/Newborough’s three.

This week Traralgon will host Sale, and South Gippsland host Moe/Newborough.
