The Melbourne Stars may not have walked away from the Valley Smash with a win, but the side delighted all-comers at a number of participation clinics and engagement activities in the lead up to Friday night’s game.
Students at Trafalgar Primary School were left star struck when players visited for a meet and greet and autograph signing session on Thursday.
Glenn Maxwell proved to be an unrivalled fan favourite with the kids and attracted his fair share of attention from adoring fans.
Skipper John Hastings said the Stars relished the opportunity to engage with children from regional areas.
“It’s good to see the smiles on [the children’s] faces and it’s always good to get out into the community and have a chat to the kids,” Hastings said.
“It’s always nice to get away from the stadiums and see different fans that love the game and they’re very supportive.”
All-rounder James Faulkner was another crowd favourite and said the Latrobe Valley provided a “really good vibe.”
“We were lucky enough to come out here about a month ago and all the support has been really, really good,” Faulkner said.
“The kids have been brilliant, obviously to see the smiles on their faces is great but the boys really loved it too.”
