Morwell goalkeeper Ashlee Wells and the Hockeyroos are through to the 2020 Tokyo Olympics after overcoming Russia.

Australia saw off the Russians over a two-game series in Perth with an aggregate 9-2 win.

Wells watched on from the bleachers in the first game on Friday night with the Hockeyroos getting up 4-2.

Wells played in the second half of the second game with the local star making a top stop in the final quarter to keep the visitors goalless with Australia winning 5-0.

After the second match, head coach Paul Gaudoin said he wanted the side to enjoy the moment before setting their sights on Olympic preparations.

“I feel really happy for the girls,” Gaudoin said.

“They worked really hard and it has been a massive year.

“We didn’t quite get there (against New Zealand) in Rockhampton but now we can focus our preparations on Tokyo.

“From here we’ve got to make sure we’re as prepared as we can be leading up to the Olympics.

“It was pleasing that we managed to finish off with some quality goals in the first half but our ball handling needs to get better as well as our fitness.”

Wells will now turn her attention back to the national Hockey One season where her Adelaide Fire side sit mid-table five rounds.
