Truckie committed to stand trial

A CAMPBELLFIELD truck driver charged with 67 sexual offences allegedly carried out in multiple towns across Victoria, including the Latrobe Valley, has been committed to stand trial.

The 54 year-old, who cannot be named for legal reasons, appeared in the Latrobe Valley Magistrates Court last week for a five-day committal hearing.

The alleged offences include four charges for sexual penetration with a person under the age of 18 in one Valley town in 2005 and 2006 whom he knew to be the child of his de facto spouse.

He also faces charges for alleged offences which took place in another Valley town between 2004 and 2007, including touching the breasts of a child under the age of 16, three charges of sexual penetration with a person under 18 – the child of his de facto spouse- and two counts of wilfully committing an indecent act with a child under 16.

The 67 charges relate to alleged incidents dating back to 1985.

Other towns where the offences allegedly took place include Broadmeadows, Wangaratta, and Dandenong,

The man is due to appear in the Melbourne County Court on 20 August for a directions hearing.
