An 18-year-old man who had his licence for less than a month was allegedly clocked at almost 70 kilometres above the speed limit at Traralgon at the weekend.
Latrobe Highway Patrol caught the Traralgon man allegedly travelling at 168km/h in a 100km/h zone on the Princes Highway between Sheepwash Creek and Minniedale roads about 2.40pm on Saturday.
His vehicle, a Holden ute, was impounded for 30 days and will cost more than $1000 to retrieve.
He will face the Latrobe Valley Magistrates’ Court on summons at a later date.
Man injured
A man was airlifted to hospital on Friday afternoon following an incident at Greenham Gippsland abattoir in Moe.
Police said the 19-year-old Narracan man was cleaning out a trough about 3pm on Friday at the abattoir when a rise and fall platform lowered, crushing him between the platform and trough.
Investigators said the man sustained chest injuries and a fractured ankle and was airlifted to The Alfred hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
WorkSafe is investigating the incident.
Four arrested over burglaries
Police have arrested three boys and a 19-year-old Traralgon man following a spate of alleged aggravated burglaries and car thefts in the Latrobe Valley.
Two 17-year-olds, a 16-year-old and the Traralgon man were arrested last week and charged following an investigation.
The three boys and man face numerous charges including aggravated burglary, burglary, theft of motor vehicle, theft from motor vehicle and breaching bail conditions.
Detectives said the alleged incidents took place between March 25 and April 1 and involved a number of homes in Morwell, Traralgon and Hazelwood North.
The man and three boys will face court later this year.
Man assaulted
A man was assaulted on Fowler Street, Moe on Friday night while walking home from his son’s place about 8pm.
Police said the 65-year-old Moe man was walking north when he passed a man before the incident took place.
Detectives said after the men had passed each other, a man of Aboriginal appearance and believed to be in his 20s, turned around and struck the older man to his face.
After the initial strike, police said the older man was kicked and punched before his mobile phone and wallet were stolen.
The injured man told police the man ran south on Fowler Street and was also seen with a woman a short time later.
