FRESH from a successful showing by several of its stars at the Yallourn Classic Singles tournament, Yallourn’s division one West Gippsland Bowls Division pennant side accounted for Morwell Club by 23 shots away from home on Saturday.
On a beautiful 14.5 second green Yallourn jumped a depleted Morwell Club side to lead by 18 shots early.
At brew time Yallourn led 57-39 on 57 ends with Ryan Marston’s team the only rink up for Morwell Club.
After the break Yallourn continued on its merry way.
Yallourn Classic semi-finalist Ken Capper, along with Peter Phillips, John Backman and Nosha Michaels, were too good for Wayne Lynch’s team 30-12.
Kevin Lovett, Jim Lawrence, John Hannant and Max Grubb were equally impressive in taking down Phil Wynd’s Morwell Club rink 30-15.
The hosts turned things around through Marston, Jorma Takanen, Peter Simpson and Robert Noblett, who carried their good form to a 30-19 win.
Morwell Club secured a second rink through Ron Witton, Brett Harle, Mil Karleusa and Derek Hewling, who came from behind to down Alan Grubb’s Yallourn quartet 20-19.
While the rinks were shared, Yallourn won the day 100-77.
Drouin provided the upset of the round by rolling Traralgon 107-89, Traralgon RSL and Trafalgar could not be separated in a 100-100 draw, while Warragul edged past Moe 94-89.
