Cyclist struck

A 77 year-old man suffered a broken leg when he was hit from behind by a truck at the intersection of Tanjil East Road and Moe Glengarry Road while cycling at 2.30pm Monday.

The Traralgon man was turning left at the intersection heading towards Morwell when he was struck.

The rider is in a stable condition.

This incident was the third serious cycling accident in the past month in Gippsland.

Latrobe Highway Patrol Sergeant Clint Wilson said the latest collision serves as another warning to cyclists and drivers heading into summer.

“It’s another timely reminder for those that are using the roads with bicycles and for those sharing the road with bicycles to do the right thing,” Sgt Wilson said.

“That metre or so of space matters and at higher speeds give them more room.”

Police have spoken to the driver of the truck and are calling for any witnesses to phone Latrobe Highway Patrol on 5127 2222.
