Mid Gippsland ready to rumble

THE Mid Gippsland Football League will kick off the 2014 season on 29 March, playing a full 18 rounds with breaks for Easter (19 March) and Interleague (24 May) with the grand final to be held on 6 September.

Mirboo North will get to unfurl the 2013 premiership flag in the opening match – a replay of last season’s grand final against Newborough.

At the recent annual meeting the league’s executive were all appointed unopposed.

Rod Lucas was reappointed secretary for the 25th time which equals Cliff Greenwood’s stint.

Four new faces have been announced on the coaching roster.

Newborough has gone for home grown talent Glenn Michie, who returned after a successful coaching stint at Hastings on the Mornington Peninsula.

David Ivey at Yallourn-Yallourn North and Jason McFarlane at Trafalgar and Nathan Scurrah at Thorpdale are the other new additions.

Re-appointed coaches are Troy Hamilton (Mirboo North), Paul Henry (Morwell East), Anthony Pavey (Yarragon), Sam McCulloch (Yinnar), Phil Town (Hill End) and Tony Giardina, reappointed for the fifth season, equalling Jim Harry’s record at Boolarra.
