FOOTBALL
MID GIPPSLAND FL
Morwell East (6th) v Trafalgar (3rd)
THIS shapes as an important match for both sides in Mid Gippsland football.
The Bloods scraped through last week in a hard contest but are fit enough to recover.
Morwell East is having a lean season and did not quite make it against Yinnar in Sunday’s rain affected match, which was tiring for all concerned.
Trafalgar will go in as favourites, having a better balanced team, but Morwell East cannot be taken lightly and have the potential to cause an upset.
Last Time: Trafalgar 8.10 (58) d Morwell East 7.2 (44)
Yarragon (9th) v Newborough (2nd)
NEWBOROUGH Bulldogs will be licking their wounds after a shocker against Boolarra in the wet last week and with another serve of bad weather and heavy grounds expected will need to pick up lost form.
The loss saw the Dogs drop top position and they will be out to regain percentage to give them a boost.
Yarragon was competitive against Trafalgar last week but will run into a brick wall against Newborough.
The Dogs should be too good for the Panthers but conditions may dictate a closer than anticipated match.
Last Time: Newborough 18.13 (121) d Yarragon 5.8 (38)
Boolarra (5th) v Mirboo North (4th)
BOOLARRA has a new lease on life after its upset win over top placed Newborough, and at home may be too quick for Mirboo North.
The Tigers proved last week that they can kick a big score under dodgy conditions, and with Tim Traill in form the potential is there for another goal-fest.
Victory would not elevate Boolarra to a higher ladder position but would guarantee a top five finish.
Last Time: Mirboo North 13.14 (92) d Boolarra 7.8 (50)
Hill End (8th) v Thorpdale (7th)
THIS will be a tight battle and could go either way with both teams down in spirit.
Thorpdale will be in the dumps after losing to the struggling Yallourn Yallourn North, while Hill End will be off colour after a big loss to Mirboo North.
The Blues should win but it could be bruising encounter.
Last time they met Hill End won, so Thorpdale will be out for redemption.
Last Time: Hill End 11.5 (71) d Thorpdale 7.10 (52)
YYN (10th) v Yinnar (1st)
YINNAR will again be at its peak, even after a mudfest match last week against Morwell East.
The Magpies could not play that poorly two weeks running, and although they won will regroup in an effort against the Bombers.
YYN may still be in hangover mode after its maiden win last week.
Yinnar, which regained top position by 21.24 percent from Newborough, will be looking to amass a mammoth total and push further ahead.
The Pies will not be in a mood to give the Bombers anything to work with and should win well.
Last Time: Yinnar 20.16 (136) d YYN 1.7 (13).
